Experiment 2
The Blind Manometer: combine the outside sign with the inner pressure
The Blind Manometer asks you to stabilise the raw capsule from the first experiment. The chemist’s gauge shows the pressure but not which range is safe. That information is outside the cauldron, in the sign the assistant sees.
Who sees what?
The assistant sees the sign that appears outside the cauldron and uses the buffer bottle. The chemist reads a separate safe pressure range for each outside sign in the book and works the lever. The same pressure can be safe with one sign and dangerous with another, so the gauge colour alone never decides.
How the experiment flows
The clock starts with the first lever move or the buffer drop. The chemist brings the pressure into the safe range and locks it there; meanwhile the assistant keeps the cauldron in a steady temperature window. When a wait of a few seconds with high enough balance is complete, the assistant delivers.
A short slip does not erase the wait; a longer one restarts it. That is why both players should call out any change on their gauge right away.
Spoiler-free tips
These are method suggestions; they do not give the right range.
- The assistant names the sign in one word and repeats it.
- After reading the range, the chemist says the decision out loud, like “we’re under, holding”.
- Do not stop watching the temperature after locking; there is no thermostat.
The next job
The stabilised capsule carries over to the third experiment, The Unwanted Guest. That experiment is free too.

The first three experiments are free. No account needed to start.
